The transformation devices operating on the level of the simple and complex sentence are examined in relation to synonymous purposive and clarifying phrases. The transformation and development of Purpose and Clarifying relations across the two languages is considered from a diachronic perspective as a specific realization of the respective synthetic and analytic trends in the development of the two language systems in contrast. The paper outlines the structural and semantic features of the synonymous syntactic structures in Russian and Bulgarian, along with their modal nuances and stylistic idiosyncrasies.</style>
</record></records></xml>
