Because of this structural identity in the translation into Bulgarian Pretérito Perfeito Composto is most often rendered through the past indefinite tense. To avoid this erroneous translation the article explains the semantic nature of Pretérito Perfeito Composto, viewed parallel to the Pretérito Perfeito Simples tense since the past indefinite tense is one of its translation equivalents. The central vowels of the two languages are contrasted by means of acoustic, auditory and functional analyses of the vowels in stressed and in unstressed position. The instrumental analysis shows that the acoustic parameters of the Bulgarian central vowel [ъ] are very similar to the parameters of the Portuguese central vowel [ə] in stressed position. In unstressed position, on the other hand, there are two vowels, which are similar to the Bulgarian [ъ],the vowels [ə] and [α]. This contrast is accounted for by the fact that in unstressed position the other central vowel of the Portuguese system [α] (whose variants almost overlap with the variants of [ə]), moves upwards and takes a more centralized position. The auditory analysis confirms the results of the spectral analysis, i. e. in the stressed position [ъ] is identified with [ə] while in unstressed position it is identified both with [ə] and [α].</style>
</record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Дренска, Маргарита</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Времетраенето на гласните в португалския и българския език</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Съпоставително езикознание / Сопоставительное языкознание / Contrastive linguistics</style></secondary-title></titles><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">1983</style></year></dates><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">8</style></volume><pages><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">25–44</style></pages><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">The acoustic parameter of duration has no linguistic value in both Bulgarian and Portuguese. The study of this phenomenon is motivated by the significant differences across the two languages. It would be a contribution both to theoretical and to applied linguistics to establish these differences. The paper discusses the results obtained from a study of duration which depends on the specific nature of the segment and on the location of the segment in relation to word stress. The duration of Bulgarian and Portuguese vowels was compared according to numerical duration values. Some of the reasons underlying differences in duration are analysed. The contrastive analysis offers a reliable theoretical foundation for further work in corrective Portuguese phonetics for Bulgarian learners.</style>
</record></records></xml>
