The purpose of the experiment was to compare English and Bulgarian monosyntagmatic utterances in terms of the theory of functional sentence perspective. Emphasis was laid on intonation as a basic means of expressing functional sentence perspective. Declarative statements and negative sentences with various semantic structures were analysed. It was proved once again that intonation plays a highly significant role in expressing functional sentence perspective in English. Intonation has similar functions in Bulgarian and is often combined with word order.</style>
</record></records></xml>
