The goal of this study is to analyse the characteristic ways of naming some predators (bear, wolf, fox, lynx, wild cat) from the period of Indo-European unity to the time of the differentiation and separation of the Indo-European dialects. The main task is to reveal the important influence of the religious-mythological world view and of the rational understanding of everyday life as extralinguistic factors working on the appearance of a number of terms with different inner form which take the place of the ancient archetypal zoonyms.
